In the city Aina on the planet Nova, lavender eyes fall restlessly over the moon-soaked landscape. The silhouettes of trees interrupted by irregular shapes of buildings stand stark and crisp underneath the luminescent orb blazing alongside pinpoints of light. “Bright as day,” she whispers. “Four full moons in a row...time is running out.” Meanwhile, an amber glow begins to trickle through the navy horizon opposite the onlooker. “From dusk til dawn?” In minutes, the breathtaking light of the sun hung heavy on the boughs suspended by brilliance. “...” Elena drew her breath and closed her eyes, straightening her posture. “I must find the Keeper.”
For four hundred years, Nova has waited tenuously under the treaty forged between the Fairchild house and the Prophets. Every full moon for the past four centuries, the Tower at Aina, as well as the Arch of Ages deep inside the Forest, show brightly enough to be seen for a hundred miles. Aina was established as a beacon to the inhabitants of Nova; a persistent reminder that the fate of two worlds rested on the shoulders of peace. Astride the Arch, the two gleaming pillars represent trust and balance between Man and Nature, and a promise that bloodshed can be stayed a while longer.
Rumors of the new Fairchild patriarch, Sorein Fairchild, hint at increasingly bizarre behavior and shady secret meetings. Sorein's rapid expansion of Aina's industrial market has proven profitable for business, but the Prophets grow more suspicious every day. Sorein came to power alongside his twin sister Cassandra after the murder of Charles Fairchild. After the inheritance was finalized, Sorein quickly maneuvered his assets to devalue his sister's portion, leaving her penniless and himself in charge of every major business in the surrounding markets. Now, Cassandra has disappeared from the public eye, and Sorein's influence increases daily. Private donations of significant value have been made from Sorein's own accounts to the Rose Court-a radical faction of crusaders bent on ridding Nova of the magicks the Prophets reserve as a secret for their own ranks. Adding that to the control of Aina's personal Guard, Sorein commands an army, if he chooses. The Prophets stand ready for war, as they have for centuries. A shadow creeps from the North; an ominous foreboding of strife. Night and day, the sun shines on Nova's forests, and the trees are restless.
“The Earth and all her children are one,
And Heaven itself will bow to this:
The will of our Maker cannot be forgone,
And while there is Aina, there can be no rest.
The will of the Prophets is the will of the Earth,
For our ranks are all of one mind;
And Heaven begrudges this damnable curse
That you've come to label 'mankind.'
Our Mother will have vengeance on her ungrateful young,
Exalting the thankful on Earth,
And turning down the Heavens upon
The heads of those who shoulder the curse.”
